Typical Day

Each classroom's schedule differs slightly, but most will include these basic events during their time at deLacey. 

Circle Time:

Preschoolers greet and wish each other well, review the rules and expectations, and discuss the day ahead which builds a strong classroom community and establishes a comforting, predictable routine.

Centers:

Children independently choose to explore various play areas such as blocks, science, art, or dramatic play which fosters their self-direction, creativity, and critical social problem-solving and play skills.

Gross Motor:

Preschoolers run, jump, climb, and play large-movement games on the playground or in the gym, which is essential for developing physical coordination, spatial awareness, and overall body strength.

Story Time:

Children actively listen to and discuss a book read aloud by the teacher, building foundational early literacy skills, vocabulary, and sustained attention.

Small Group:

Preschoolers work closely with the teacher and paraeducator on specific, hands-on activities, allowing for individualized instruction and targeted practice in the areas of math, literacy, fine motor, social-emotional learning, and cognitive skills.

Music:

Preschoolers sing, play simple instruments, and dance to different rhythms, promoting auditory discrimination, memory development, and creative self-expression.

Snack:

Children sit together to eat and practice self help skills like opening packages and asking for help, which reinforces vital fine motor life skills and encourages positive social conversations.
